Best food we've had so far in NFLD. Super fresh and delicious.
BEST CALIMARI I EVER TASTED IN MY LIFE ! I recommend this seafood restaurant
Great restaurant, great staff! The shrimp burger was great as was the brownie. A great find in the North.
Stopped in for a late lunch today at the Anchor Cafe and boy was it ever good. I have eaten in every province in this country and beyond, I can honestly say this is the best lunch I have ever eaten. I had the halibut and chips, it was cooked perfectly. The halibut was tender and delicious. My partner had the halibut and a fresh garden salad which they paired with a home made dressing that is to DIE for. Practically everything on the menu is made in house and they've done an excellent job. We were greeted with a warm and friendly welcome, the service was exceptional and cleanliness is impeccable. I will be recommending the Anchor Cafe to all who are heading this side of the island. Well done!
I had the Hungry Skipper (seafood platter) Pros: Very nautical, and a good environment. Lovely tartar sauce, very tasty scallop, and good coleslaw. Also, a good selection of beer, and welcoming attitude.Cons: Coming from a Newfie, the seafood didn't have a lot of taste, especially the Cod. We had to dig through a mountain of croutons to get to our salad. Also, the waitress didn't bring our seafood sauce and tartar sauce till half was through our me. Overall, a very nice nautical experience with friendly service. They have a very nice selection of food. But it's a real shame because I wanted this place to be really good. Unfortunately, if you're looking for good seafood on the Island; this isn't the spot. This is coming from a Newfoundlander who loves his seafood.
Great food and service. Super clean!
Great fun/funky atmosphere, awesome service. My parents and I are vegan and were able to find a few things to choose from and they are happy to modify items on the menu as well. I had the spicy Thai wrap with rice instead of chicken (photo).
Their blackened halibut was the best fish I have ever tasted. Meaty and tender, with a pleasantly mild spice--I've never had its equal before or since. Staff were excellent too. Highly recommended if you find yourself hungry for halibut in Port aux Choix.
Decent food but nothing to write home about. Had the moose burger and it wasn't anything special, more of a novelty menu item in my opinion. Patty is very seasoned and had onions within it, not a whole lot of game-y flavour you'd expect from something like moose. Nicely decorated interior and clean spot nonetheless.
Service is quick and friendly. Food is simple, but tasty and in generous portions. Very reasonable prices. Makes a good stop when you are driving the west coast.
Cod was excellent as was the service. Large portions.
This was some of the best service we had on our trip to NL. Food was great! The seafood chowder was awesome! We loved showcase of local artwork as well. Highly recommend this place if you are in the area.
This cafe has The Best Seafood around!!!!. Service is great. If in the Port aux Chois area go into town to this cafe and you wont be disappointed.
This was a bit out of our way down the coast, but absolutely worth it. Great food, service and price! :)
First time food was so good that on the way back from St Anthony we stopped in for our second meal!
Lunch casual. Can't beat fresh cold water shrimp. Sandwich and chowder! Also recommend the fish tacos.
Food good and reasonable priced.
Super Nice, food is fresh and good. There is anchor, boat, fishing things are litteraly everywhere on that restaurant. Really happy to been there.
We had the deep fried shrimp and moose burger. Both were fantastic!
I love this place! Really fun and interesting decor. So friendly! Great salads in an area that's hard to get a good one
Good food and service at a good price
Good food and service. The 2 piece halibut was meaty and nicely battered. The shipwreck fries and lasagne were a hit. The chowder was filling but lacking big chunks of fish.
Food was great, service was excellent, decor was interesting. Highly recommended.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere and food. Staff were so friendly and chatty and food was well done
Pan fried halibut was delicious. Cool spot in a nice town. Worth the little drive off the highway.
It was delicious as always! Great service from Ashley :)
Absolutely delicious! Great place to eat if you are stopping here or just passing by! Moose Burger and 2 pc cod and chips were amazing! Service was great and cute place! Bakedapple cheese cake and sundae were amazing too!
Menu is a mix of seafood and sandwiches. Food was really good. I was very happy they offered panfried fish with veges as I'm pretty sick of deep fried fish and chips. Though the cheapest fish meal was $19.Waitress was polite and efficient. Loved the decorations inside and out. Outside is a cute photo op with a fisherman and boat. Inside has lots of interesting beach themed paintings and ornaments.
Good food, terrible serviceA waitress doubled the number of beers I had (6 vs. Actual 3) in my bill and added extra wine to my friend's bill. Since I never drink that much, I questioned her, so she, without much apologizing, said, "ok, five then" and started showing empty bottles she pulled somewhere under her counter as a "proof". Finally two (not even all!) extra beers were removed from the bill, but that experience was so unnecessary embarrassing that I will definitely never visit this place again.
Traditional Newfoundland food with good flavor.
Fresh fish and seafood. Highly recommend.
Good food, limited selection of seafood; cod halibut, shrimp and scallops. No shrimp or halibut when we were there beginning of June, because the season hadn't opened.
Absolutely the best fish chowder ever. I know chowder and this is the best I’ve ever had.
Excellent moose burger and home made crispy fries.
Excellent service, food was a bit pricey for a town with limited options, but the fried shrimp was delicious. It's kitschy but quaint.
Very nice local seafood restaurant in Port aux Choix. I had the fish and chips (2 PC halibut) and could barely finish. LOVED the interesting Newfie facts in the basement .
Great home cooking! Try the soup!
Excellent food...pleasent staff...not to long of a wait....very nicely done inside and out .
Delicious food, such as moose burger and also chowder. Great service!
Very welcoming staff, nice ambience, lacking in vegetarian options but pretty decent
Great location in the port of Port au Choix. All food was deep fried, so it is a good choice if you’re looking for that. It was very good.
Some of the best seafood ibhad in NFLD
If you ever wanted to try a desert treat the Bake Apple Berry cheesecake is really good.
Good food and service
Me and my wife had a lovely meal here. The blackened halibut was amazing. The staff was very friendly and there was alot of nivlce local artwork to browse and available for purchase. Would absolutely recommend stopping in if in the area.
Aug16, 2018Visited again. Food is still great. My wife had codfish and chips and i had a bowl of chowder. Next time I'll order a cup of chowder and only one piece of fish. We aren't big eaters any more.2016Visited the Anchor Cafe. Both my wife and I had the halibut and I had a side order of mussels. The atmosphere, service and quality of food, were outstanding.
Our group of 5 enjoyed a great lunch...chowder, shrimp sandwich and moose burger were all great. Lots of art work and historical pictures to enjoy...takes 10 minutes to get to washrooms if you take the time to enjoy info on walls.
Ordered Cod and Halibut. Freshest fish ever had in a restaurant. Very well prepared, cooked to perfection, and delicious. Nice staff and reasonable prices.
We were a bit early for lunch, so we had the restaurant almost to ourselves. We had good food and service. A little expensive, but still worth it if you're in the area.
Cute little place. Food was good. Would be preferable if the staff knew in advance what they had available as we had a child with us who only wanted 1 thing in the menu. When we were later told it wasn't available, it took forever to convince him to pick something else.
